Process : Place on a flexible surface over a good layer of newsprint. Engrave the pattern outlines on the metal using a pointed instrument or a blunt-lead pencil. Determine which firns will be in relief and which will be hollowed out. If a form is to appear hollowed or sunken push the metal down into place. If a form is to appear in relief turn over the metal sheet and work on the back. Go over the outlines several times in order to accentuate the shapes. Once the embossing is complete apply a coat of black Indian ink and wipe it off in the manner described for B&B aluminium sheets.
Engraved or embossed metals can be painted with stained-glass enamel, if transparent effects are desired, or with ceramic hobby colours, for an opaque colour. Metals can also be coloured with permanent markers.
